Event: First Annual Curling Rock & Roll Funspeil

The HFCA hosted the first annual curling funspeil at the Donalda Club Jan 23rd. There were 32 enthusiastic curlers who made up 8 teams. They curled 2 games of 4 ends each. There was a great mix of novice to expert curlers exhibiting the Henry Farm spirit of teamwork, support and encouragement and lots of laughter! A post game beverage in the bar rounded off the athletic event. Thanks to Bruce and Donna Hill for arranging the use of the Donalda ice.

The “post” curling party was co-hosted by Bruce and Donna Hill and Marla and John Fryers at the Fryers place. There were 48 people dressed in everything from kilts to party attire who showed up to toast the Haggis. They paraded the Haggis around the house to Scottish music then read Scottish poetry to the Haggis and finally at exactly the appropriate moment in the poem, the Haggis was stabbed and the group ate it raising glass with a wee dram of scotch to toast the great Robbie Burns. Thank you to Marion Rowe for providing the Haggis and the Robbie Burns ritual of the Haggis.

The main course of the evening was a roast of pork and a deliciously BBQ’d roast of beef cooked to perfection by neighbour Chris Haller. The roasts were accompanied by salads and buns. Thanks also to Sue Andrighetti who whipped up a delicious punch for the crowd

The evening was finished with carrot cake for dessert.

The whole event was enjoyed by all who participated and there are rumours that it will be repeated, perhaps in a larger venue! Check out the Henry Farm web site for pictures and stay tuned for the second annual event in 2011!
