Community Alert: Neighbour helps in the arrest of thief

Neighbour helps in the arrest of thief after spate of robberies in Henry Farm March 15, 2010

According to Police at Division 33, since late January 2010, 6 Houses were broken into in Henry Farm and several other homes north of Shaugnessy. 4 in George Henry, 1in Ringwood and 1 in Parfield.

One Neighbour had noticed someone in a back yard around 9:30 a.m. and taken a good description of the person. They were wondering on how to react when they received a call to indicate there was phone call to report of an entry from the side door of our house by the Alarm Company. They went over to the house to find the side door and the front door opened. They called the police and described the person they saw in the back yard.

The police arrived at our house shortly after another cruiser arrested the thief who was roaming the streets in the neighbourhood based on the neighbour’s description. His back pack was empty. He had a previous history of theft. He did not admit to the crime. The police suspected that he was living close to the neigbourhood as the stolen goods were missing from his back pack. The police used the keys that they found on him on adjoining apartment buildings. After an extensive effort the key opened an apartment door at 130 George Henry. The superintendent of the Building identified him as the Apartment dweller. Almost all of the goods he stole from our house were recovered and there were few more stolen goods in his possession. But, most of the goods he stole from the previous thefts were disposed.

The police advised us the best protection against theft in your house was alert neighbours. Especially when you are away by removing the newspapers, cleaning the drive way, watching for unusual activity etc. We were lucky to have an alert Neighbour who was looking after our interest.

This is a great example of having the good neighbours in Henry Farm and our Neighbourhood Watch program working. We sincerely hope all Henry farmers will continue to look out for their neighbours.
